The first issue of Emerson College Magazine was published in 1892 and ran until 1920 when the name changed to Emerson Quarterly. The magazine was dedicated to explaining the principles of oratory as interpreted by Emerson, and disseminating information on related subjects of interest to students, instructors, and members of the Emerson College community. The magazine was edited by students and alumni and supported by reader subscriptions. During the evolution of the magazine, the focus shifted from articles promoting Emerson’s philosophy of oratory and reproductions of faculty lectures to literary submissions from students, college news, and alumni updates.
